Elghana has needs for; Support worker (Orphanage/Care Homes) Typical day for a Orphanage/Home Volunteer/Intern: Shift one:
  1. 7:00am - shower and breakfast
  2. 7:30am - Report to work, supervise the orphans to bath and dress for school, serve the orphans their breakfast, Clean-up bowls and dinning area after breakfast, walk the children to school,
  3. 9am - Teach those who are not yet in school, Play with kids, put the babies to sleep, assist teaching in the school the children attend.
  4. 12pm - 2pm - Take your lunch after serving lunch to the children. - close for the day
Shift two:
  1. 2pm - Take children to play ground to play with them.
  2. 4pm - Supervise children back from school to take the shower and change for super.

  2. 8am - 4pm - Report to work. Round the wards to visit and review patients on admission. Going with the doctor on these rounds helps you to learn a lot of the tropical diseases and treatment plans in the hospital so if you are a doctor working on your own, you could strike a balance, and if you are a student or aspiring to go to medical school, you can learn much from these rounds. Diagnosis, history, treatment, surgical ward and labor ward, will be your frequent activities supervised, understudying or on your own, depending on skill and experience as determined by the doctor in charge.

If working at a rehabilitation and training center, you might spend time helping them to improve on their conversational english, any other basic, tehnical or vocational subject you can help provide teaching, if you are a physio-therapist or student of that, you will help those recuperating in undergoing their exercises.

| Wildlife Volunteer/InternTypical day for a Research Volunteer/Intern: You work in groups, at least pairs.

  2. 8:00am - Report to work, Your day is usually spent in the fields, observation of marked* wild species, if any of them needs care, they will have to be tracked down, tranquilized or restricted and treated.
  3. 1pm - Return back to the office, take your lunch break
  4. 2pm - Transfer your observational notes and activities to the official database at the office. Please note that some observations are not done in the morning but in late afternoon and sometimes at night. If it is the case, your work time shall be shifted accordingly by your supervisor.
  5. 4pm - Close for the day, have time to discover your area, visit local friends and chat with other volunteers, go home for your shower.

Elghana provides each volunteer: Project placementPROJECT PLACEMENT If your application is accepted, We arrange your work placement for you, including needed project materials and supervision so when you arrive, you are hitting the ground running. In making the placement, we place you in the country you choose, we consider the current needs of the chosen project and among them, we consider your requested areas of placement and your special interests. If there are any details you wish to discuss directly with your would be supervisor, we are able to connect you to have such discussions directly on phone. So before you arrive, you are already into the project. | Host familyHost Family A host family is a family who will provide a spareroom for our volunteer. This family also provide meals, three times daily for the volunteer and welcomes the volunteer as part of the family. The volunteer has own room in this home. The families we pick are couples who have lived together for a good period of time, with no criminla record, good social standing, active member in the community, with at least one child under the age of 18 in the house. These families are trained to know and deal with cross cultural issues, providing food for volunteers, immersing the volunteers into local culture and providing support for the volunteers as well as handling issues of conflict. | AccommodationAccommodation abroad Family stay accommodation for individual volunteers. Groups are hosted in larger homes and share rooms. We try to keep a group under one roof, else we keep the group in a well equiped Hostel. Criminal records and active community roles of a family is checked, they are trained and regularly vetted.
In each home, you will have access to a hall, dining area, a couple and child(ren), bath and toilet and electricity. In some homes, there is internet service, in some homes, there is no running shower so you will use a bucket and scope water over you. You will have your own room or might share with your friend or family if needed. In your room there is a bed, sheets and wardrobe. Some rooms have television, fan, air-condition, own bath and toilet.
| Meals MEALS 3X DAILY Your host family provides you with breakfeast, lunch and dinner. We have trained them and contantly guide them in how to prepare and make available to your the foods familiar to you and to softly introduce you to some popular local dishes and if there is any you come to like, It becomes a part of your menu chart. You have the best of organic from our countries and they shop for healthy foods. You will have much of rice, chips, chicken, bread, eggs, tea, coffee and real fresh fruits regularly in your chart. Three meals daily, all days. | InsuranceInsurance Together with the Insurance Services of America, We cover all our volunteers with insurance inclusive in fees paid. $50,000 medical maximum @ $100 deductible. We have a wonderful relationship with the missions abroad so even if it happens for any reason you are not able to apply for your visa before departure, we can arrange for you to pick your visa upon arrival, such a process cost more. You should therefore apply for the visa before arrival, normal time is two weeks for you to receive your passport back with your visa. So giving yourself three weeks to one month prior to departure to apply is ok. | Flight bookingFlight Booking With our help, you are more likely to get the cheapest flight to the project country, to the nearest international airport. We have a couple of travel partners who provide discount for our people travelling for charity work with us. We compare their offer with the open market and there are a couple of means we are able to secure you a less expensive flight. You can always compare the deals we get for you. But if you can make your own arrangements, we are always happy to help you in anyway you want us to. And remember anytime and day you can get a cheaper flight arriving, we shall be at the airport to meet and pick you up. | Airport meeting & Pick upAirport Pick-up when you arrive, there will be someone waiting at the airport. We will take your luggage and pack them in a car and take you home that day. We have homes at the airport cities so in cases where volunteers baggage may have been left behind, there is no problem staying a day or two to wait and claim your baggage if it happens to you. From the very moment you arrive on the plane, you are our responsibility. So you do not need to spend on hotel accommodation. We will pick you up anytime of the day and any day of the week. Even if you are coming ahead of your time for any purpose, we will meet you at the airport. If you need a hotel accommodation for any reason you may have, we help in getting you the suitable hotel. | In-Country transportationTRANSPORTATION If transportation to and from work and home is required, the cost is taken up by Elghana. Transportation to and from the airport and your host home or any elghana accommodations in the capital upon your arrival or prior to your departure is at Elghana's cost. In Africa, the major means of transportation is via mini buses within cities and towns and via coaches between cities. More information on transportation is provided in the pre-departure documentation and it is important you read to know the kind of transport means you should avoid. | Mobile PhoneMOBILE PHONE FOR YOUR USE Each volunteer is giving a pay as you go mobile phone service, mobile phones are provided to volunteers upon arrival which should be returned in its good shape upon departure at the airport. If there is going to be more than one volunteer in a host house, we may choose to provide one mobile phone for the household volunteers. All our projects towns and villages have a mobile phone coverage. You could come with your own phone and we shall provide you the pay as you go service. | Physical SupportPHYSICAL SUPPORT Countries are cut into zones mapped by a radius of between 45minutes to 90minutes drive. Staff are stationed within each zone beside the staff at our regional and country offices, the project supervisors on site of project with you and the host families you live with all of whom are trained to competently execute the vision and services of Elghana to our volunteers and project beneficiaries. In the event of any emergency, you are guaranteed a trusted staff will reach you whereever you are, in not more than 90 minutes. You have a 24hours, all days direct call to our support staff who are able to deal with any situation you might have, be it a trouble at a party, too drunk to find your way home or conflict at home. | OrientationORIENTATION UPON ARRIVAL When you arrive, there shall be an orientation to brief you further and thrwo more light on the pre-departure information you had received earlier. There shall be an orientation at the work place, on your first day, yo shall have a familiarization tour and orientation. Depending on the work you shall be doing, and your current skills and length of stay, orientation periods shall differ. Orientation shall also introduce you to major issues abogut the country, shopping, getting around reaching a staf in emmergency, what do do at important times, etc. | TrainingTRAINING FOR THE JOB If your chosen work requires some training before you can play an active role or work independently, the training is provided upon your arrival by the supervisor or a competent person chosen by the supervisor to do that job. You are actually trained on the job so in a day or two, you would have gathered enough to make an impact on your own. | CertificationCertification We provide all volunteers who successfully complete their work a certificate. For those who are seeking academic credits, a supervisor from one of our partner academic institutions will supervise your work and provide a report and credit to us. We send that directly to your academic institution, to your supervisor.
We also provide reference and testimonials for our volunteers who needs it to pursue employment, promotion or education whenever it is requested. There is no limit to time or number of requests you can make. And there are no charges for these services.
| SupervisionSUPERVISION At each project site, there is a supervisor who works directly with you. Where you need spervison, or wants someone who can explain something to you, the supervisor is responsible for this. The supervisor is responsible for releasing any material you need for your project that we have provided and helping you perform better on the project. Their report is vital to our final assesment of your work which is done earliest 10 days after your departure. These are kept on our records as a guide in knowing the responses we offer to people who may contact us in the future about you and to help us know who we can recall under full sponsorship if there is a serious urgent need. | SafariSAFARI AND PLACES OF INTEREST Explore new things and places, and discover fascinating wildlife, discover more of the culture of the people and gain a deeper cultural immersion that makes your trip one of a lifetime. We help you plan a safari and trip to places of interest. In some occassions, we are able to arrange for the volunteers to join a packaged tour. We provide information on the interesting places and things to do in the pre-departure documentation. And we also help in reserving hotel accommodation and any booking that should be done in advance if you wish to take a trip alone. If you wish for a staff to excort you, our suport staff tema is there for you. | Airport Drop-offAirport Drop-Off When it is time for you to depart, we take you from your host's home straight to the airport and we stay until you have successfully completed boarding formalities. If you were working far from the airport city, we pick you to the airport city and host you at least a day before your departure so you do not miss your flight. Anytime you are departing, we go with you to the airport. So in case there is a problem we can help there and then. In case a flight is cancelled, you are not stranded, we take you to one of our accommodations close to the airport so you can catch your flight the next time.
| Visa ExtensionsVISA EXTENSION If there is the need to extend your visa, Elghana sponsors your application thus you are guaranteed to secure extension when you need it.
