From athletics to basketball, football to cricket, no matter the sport, new or known, Africans are enthusiastic to learn. Many children do not have the opportunity to receive proper coaching at a young age and they therefore lack basic skills and understanding of games compared to those in Europe. There is very little sports infrastructure and little opportunity for schools and other teams to play in competitive tournaments in most African countries. Very few children in Africa get the chance to learn how to swim. With three of our four project countries along the coast, the teaching of swimming is necessary. With swimming becoming a lucrative sport, the exposure of children to this sport at an early age will be beneficial not only as a sporting activity, but also as a life-saving mechanism. Imagine using the power of sports to instil life skills such as good citizenship, communication skills and discipline and raise awareness of health and social issues in the children and youth of Africa.
Our programmes involve working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds, keeping them off the streets, giving them the chance to play and develop through sports that they are most passionate about. We have programmes catering for all levels and sporting abilities. We provide you with an opportunity to use your skills to coach in underprivileged schools and communities.
Whether you just love sport or you're a professional, we have a project for you! Sports include football, cricket, swimming, badminton, baseball, Hockey, basketball, athletics, tennis among many others. No experience is required other than a desire to use sports to help others. We look for great sport enthusiastics as volunteers. So if you have a passion for any sport, mentioned or not, then why not become an Elghana sports coach and help develop the sport in the children and youth in Africa?
You will be coaching any sport of your choice particularly in poor schools during lesson times. Depending on your timetable, you may be working in different schools. Turn their school holidays into an enjoyable learning experience using games as we develop talents in children at an early age. You may also be working with other clubs. Volunteers will also be responsible in assisting with training drills, coordination skills and athletic development and will organize competitions among participating youth. You will be able to harness their enthusiasm and teach them how to use their talents, raw or developed, more effectively and in a structured way.
